Manifestation 101: What It REALLY Means to Create Your Reality
Just think pretty thoughts, and all your dreams will come true! That’s what manifestation is, right?
No.
When I started my journey of understanding myself and the world around me, I was skeptical about the idea of manifestation. I saw tons of YouTube videos like “manifest $10,000 overnight” or “How I manifested a lottery win.” It sounds so out there, especially when you write “win lottery” on a piece of paper, buy a lottery ticket, and wake up to find that not even a single number on your ticket was called.
Been there? I can relate!
As a professional and an entrepreneur, my world is built on strategy, hard work, and tangible results. The idea that simply thinking about something could make it happen felt… well, a bit incredible. But the more I heard about manifestation, the more curious I became. Could there be something more to it? Could this concept actually hold some practical power?
Unfortunately, my journey into understanding manifestation wasn’t through a guru on a beautiful mountaintop, but through diving into its history and the surprising philosophy behind it. I started to see that manifestation, at its core, isn’t just wishing; it’s a process of transforming ideas and desires into tangible reality through the focused power of your thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and actions. It’s about consciously aligning your inner world with the outer results you want to see.
In this post, I want to share what I’ve learned about what manifestation really means, how it connects to some surprisingly practical principles, and most importantly, how you can actually use it to live your dream life.
What is Manifestation?
When manifesting, you become a conscious co-creator of your life. It’s a deliberate process of taking what exists as an idea or desire in your mind and bringing it into your physical experience.
It’s definitely more than just positive thinking. While a positive outlook is incredibly helpful and has real psychological benefits, manifestation involves acknowledging your current reality, understanding your emotions, setting clear intentions, and, crucially, taking quantum actions that align with your goals and desires.
Have you heard of the Law of Attraction, the idea that like attracts like? This principle suggests that your dominant thoughts and feelings create an energetic frequency that attracts similar experiences and circumstances into your life. Think of it like tuning a radio. You have to be on the right frequency to pick up the station you want. Psychologically, the concept is the same. When you focus on opportunities, you’re more likely to spot them and act.
What surprised me most was discovering that these ideas aren’t new. They have deep roots in ancient philosophies, suggesting that the power of the mind to influence reality has been explored for centuries.
The Ancient Blueprint: What Hermeticism Taught Me
My research led me to Hermeticism, an ancient philosophical and religious tradition consisting of seven principles, attributed to a figure called Hermes Trismegistus. While complex, some of its core principles, particularly as outlined in a text called The Kybalion, felt like an ancient blueprint for modern manifestation.
Here are three principles that really resonated with me and felt directly applicable to creating my reality:
- The Principle of Mentalism: “The All is Mind; The Universe is Mental.” The first principle of Hermeticism suggests that the entire universe is fundamentally mental, like a thought in a universal mind. If that’s the case, then our individual minds, being part of this universal mind, have the power to influence reality through focused thought. This is the philosophical bedrock for the idea that your thoughts shape your reality.
- The Principle of Correspondence: “As above, so below; as below, so above.” This famous axiom means there’s a connection and similarity between different levels of reality – the spiritual, the mental, and the physical. It implies that your inner world (your thoughts, feelings, beliefs) is reflected in your outer world (your circumstances and experiences). Change your inner state, and your outer reality will follow suit.
- The Principle of Vibration: “Nothing rests; everything moves; everything vibrates.” This principle states that everything in the universe, from the smallest particle to the largest galaxy, is in constant motion and vibrates at a specific frequency. Our thoughts and emotions also have vibrations. To attract what you desire, you need to match its vibrational frequency by consciously choosing thoughts and feelings that align with it.
Putting Principles into Practice: How I Manifest (and How You Can Too)
Understanding the philosophy is one thing, but how do we actually do this in our busy lives? Here’s how I approach manifestation, drawing on these principles:
- Get Crystal Clear on What You Want: This is the absolute first step. You can’t manifest a vague idea. What do you really desire? Be specific. Write it down. The act of clarifying sends a clear signal to your mind and, if you believe in it, the universe. (Connects to Mentalism)
- Visualize and Feel It: Visualization is more than just seeing a picture in your head. Feelings and emotions will immerse you in the experience of having already achieved your goal. What does it feel like to land that big client? To launch that successful product? To have the work-life balance you crave? Engage all your senses. (Connects to Mentalism, Correspondence, Vibration)
- Use Affirmations to Build Belief: Our subconscious beliefs can be powerful roadblocks. Positive affirmations are statements you repeat to yourself to reprogram your mind and build unwavering belief that your desires are possible and that you are worthy of them. (Connects to Mentalism)
- Align Your Energy (Raise Your Vibration): Since everything vibrates, including our emotions, cultivating positive feelings is key to attracting what you want. That’s not to say you should ignore negative emotions. Instead, learn to process them and consciously shift your state towards feelings of gratitude, joy, and abundance. (Connects to Vibration, Polarity, Rhythm)
- Take Inspired Action: This is where the rubber meets the road. Manifestation isn’t passive. Once you’ve set your intention and aligned your energy, pay attention to the nudges, opportunities, and ideas that come your way. These are often the universe responding. Take action on them, even if they seem minor. (Connects to Cause and Effect)
Your Everyday Practice
Notice I use the word “practice.” You will find challenges and even get discouraged along the way. But this is a practice, like any other, and you will have to encourage yourself to reset and keep moving ahead on your journey.
So, how do we incorporate manifestation into our everyday lives?

- Micro-Manifesting Moments: You don’t need hours. Use your commute for visualization or affirmations. Set a clear intention for your day during your morning routine or the night before when you’re drifting off to sleep. Use journaling to clarify desires and process emotions. Even clearing physical or digital clutter can help align your energy.
- Business & Career Goals: Manifesting isn’t just for personal goals. Apply it to your professional life: visualize landing a specific client, successfully launching a new service, attracting the perfect team members, or achieving a financial milestone.
- Beyond the Material: Remember, manifestation isn’t solely about money or things. You can manifest better health, more fulfilling relationships, increased creativity, or a stronger sense of peace and well-being.
- Navigating Setbacks: Not everything manifests exactly as or when you expect. View challenges as opportunities for growth, feedback, or a redirection towards something even better.
You Create Your Reality
Manifestation, rooted in ancient wisdom like Hermeticism, isn’t a magic trick; it’s a powerful practice for conscious creation. It’s about understanding the profound connection between your inner world and the reality you experience. By consciously directing your thoughts, feelings, and beliefs and pairing them with inspired action, you tap into your innate power to shape your life and business.
You are not just living in reality; you are actively creating it. What will you create next?
